Tidak tanggung-tanggung, fans tersebut membuat akun Facebook yang mendukung perbuatan Maiolo tersebut. Dalam hitungan jam, jumlah facebookers yang bergabung ke dalam akun tersebut telah mencapai 150 orang. Seorang anggota kabinet menteri Italia menyebut ke-150 orang tersebut sebagai pengecut. Seperti diwartakan, Maiolo, yang mentalnya terganggu, menerobos barisan keamanan dan berhasil menarik Paus hingga terjatuh. Sebelumnya, Maiolo juga berusaha menerobos barisan keamanan Paus pada tahun 2008, tetapi tidak berhasil. Mayoritas komentar di akun Facebook tersebut bernada sarkastik.
