Image via CrunchBase Sistem operasi Android terus mendominasi pasar ponsel cerdas. Satu dari tiga ponsel di AS menggunakan sistem operasi itu, menurut MSNBC. Riset pasar comScore menunjukkan bahwa Android terus meningkat, seperti yang terjadi selama dua tahun terakhir.  Dari bulan November sampai Februari, pangsa pasar Android melompat 7 persen, membuat sistem operasi dari Google itu digunakan 33 persen pemilik ponsel cerdas. Pangsa pasar Apple dengan iPhone hanya meningkat 0,2 persen pada periode yang sama. iPhone Verizon merupakan ponsel yang paling banyak dibeli selama Februari, namun penjualan satu bulan itu tidak dapat banyak mendorong peningkatan pangsa pasarnya.

Pembuat BlackBerry, Research in Motion menurut "bisik-bisik" akan mengumumkan bahwa mereka mulai mendukung aplikasi yang dibuat untuk Android. Laporan tersebut dimuat dalam harian terbitan Inggris Telegraph. Sebelumnya, Bloomberg melaporkan RIM sedang menyiapkan agar tablet Playbooknya kompatibel dengan 130 ribu aplikasi Google Android. Pada kongres mobile dunia, pembuat peranti lunak Myriad memamerkan peranti lunak Alien Dalvik yang bisa membuat Android berjalan pada platform lain. Aplikasi ShopSavvy dapat blognya menulis "Seseorang di markas RIM, Waterloo, Ontario, telah menjalankan Shopsavvy untuk android di berbagai peralatan BlackBerry."

Image via Wikipedia Motorola akhirnya secara terbuka memastikan harga jual perangkat Motorola Xoom, tablet pertama yang menggunakan plaftorm Android 3.0 atau Honeycomb. Soal harga memang ditunggu-tunggu pasar mengingat sejumlah  review menempatkan Xoom sebagai tablet terbaik dari sisi kinerja dibandingkan dengan tablet lainnya saat ini. Pekan lalu, sempat beredar kabar tablet ini akan dijual seharga 1.999 dollar AS atau sekitar Rp 18 juta. Saat itu, harga tersebut muncul di situs pemesanan Best Buy. Namun, tak lama kemudian informasi tersebut hilang setelah rumor harga beredar dan mendapat tanggapan miring.

A new comScore report concerning the state of the mobile market is out, and it should surprise exactly no one that Android's market share continues to rise.  The rate of Android's growth is sure to displease some Apple fans, however, as it looks like Android may have eclipsed iOS in terms of smartphone subscribers. Google's share of the market rose from 21.4 percent in September to 23.5 percent in October (the most recent month for which comScore has stats).  Apple's share, meanwhile, only edged upwards from 24.3 percent to 24.6 percent.  So it's quite possible Google drew even and pulled ahead in November. That guess is supported by longer-term data, too.  comScore compared how the top mobile operating systems performed between July and September, and only Google came out looking strong. Indeed, even the people at RIM, who still have a decent lead overall, should be worried considering how their OS lost a full 10.0 points over Google's in that timespan. ...

Menurut Paul Otellini, Chief Executive Officer Intel, saat ini perusahaannya tengah memperluas strateginya termasuk fokus ke pasar untuk perangkat terhubung, lebih dari sekadar membuat prosesor untuk PC. “Intel memposisikan diri untuk mengambil peluang di mana pengguna akan memilih perangkat yang menyediakan pengalaman terbaik dan pasar di mana tidak ada satu perangkat tunggal yang akan menjadi dominan,” kata Otellini, seperti dikutip dari Telecompaper, Rabu 15 September 2010.

Apparently, Google is starting to roll out the Android 2.2 Froyo update to Nexus One devices. According to Vice President for Google engineering Vic Gundotra at the Google IO conference, Android 2.2, codenamed Froyo, is going to be five times faster at running apps and three times faster at browsing. You will be able to use the camera and voice recognition in the browser with Froyo. Web page and games run faster because the Android browser has the same V8 JavaScript engine as Chrome. "We think we can claim Froyo has the fastest mobile browser," said Gundotra.   IT'S getting harder and harder to keep up with all the latest Android mobile phone launches. They are like buses. You wait ages for one, and then about six come along at once. Hot on the heels of the Sony Ericsson X10, LG's first in the GW620, HTC and its Legend and Desire plus Samsung's own Galaxy Portal now comes this beauty. Again it's a Samsung. Again it's a Galaxy but this is codenamed the S and we've no idea why. It's hardly catchy.

According to the Mobile Metrics Report by mobile advertising firm AdMob, Apple and Google dominate as a platform in the smartphone market. If you make a comparison for Smartphone Platform traffic in USA, the traffic share of iPhone has dropped from almost 70% in April 09 to approx 45% in Feb 10, but still it holds half of the traffic share .Also, the growth of Android OS is very significant in the last several months. It almost catches up the iPhone traffic share in this Feb, 2010 because more and more Android based Smartphones are coming in the market like Motorola Droid etc. The share of RIM has gradually declined, while WebOS and Windows Mobile remain pretty much saturated at the bottom.

By some accounts, this week hasn't been so great for Google. The first bit of bad news concerns sales of Google's Nexus One phone. On Tuesday, the market analytics firm Flurry released a report saying initial sales of Google's Nexus One phone have been slim compared to the Droid and the iPhone. The firm compared sales of those those phones over the first 74 days they were on the market. In a blog post , Flurry says it chose that time period because that's how long it took the original iPhone to sell 1 million handsets when it was released in 2007.
