Hadang Geliat Google TV, Apple Siapkan Kejutan Baru

May 31 Is 'Quit Facebook Day'. Are You In?

Let's face it: Facebook hit critical mass and the mainstream a while ago. According to the site itself, there are over 400 million active users, and 50 percent of them visit on any given day. Even my brother-in-law's 91-year-old grandma is on Facebook. Now that's mainstream. When anything grows that large, that quickly, backlash is all but inevitable. But "backlash" seems like a mild term to apply to the very vocal and growing complaints that Facebook plays fast and loose with its members' privacy. In his column titled "Facebook: Privacy Enemy Number One?" PCMag's reviews editor Dan Costa noted in April that "the simple fact that gets lost in the rush towards ubiquitous social connectivity is that Facebook users still don't know what they are sharing, with whom, or why it matters. In short: Facebook remains a privacy minefield. And just yesterday, lead software and Web services analyst Michael Muchmore reported in his story, "

WARNING: Facebook Malware Attack on the Loose

A Facebook phishing attack is on the loose this weekend — the third widespread attack on the site in the past three weeks. The attack attempts to steal your Facebook login credentials, install malware on your computer, and even get your home address. The attack is spread via a “hilarious video” posted to Facebook walls, reports WebSense — when clicked, a form appears requesting your Facebook login. The attack then returns you to Facebook, installs an app called “Media Player HD”, and asks you to download the “FLV player” — doing so installs malware on your machine. It gets worse: Depending on your location, you may also be presented with a contest to win an iPad … if you just enter your home address. To avoid getting caught, simply remove the “hilarious video” if you find it on your Facebook wall. If you see it elsewhere on Facebook, don’t click it … and of course remember the obvious rule: Don’t enter your Facebook login anywhere other than Facebook.com. If you already fell fo

Umat Islam Pakistan Punya Facebook Sendiri

Demikian dilansir StraitsTimes, Jumat (28/5/2010). S

Facebook: our hiccups on privacy

When the first steam-powered vehicles arrived on the roads in Britain midway through the 19th century, parliament passed a law which stated that at least three people must be employed to drive them, one of whom should be walking in front carrying a red flag. It was not until 1896 that the Highways Act allowed vehicles to be driven without such restrictions. Initial responses to new technology often have to be adapted as usage patterns become clearer. That was true on 19th-century British roads; it is true on the internet today. Media regulations to encourage the local production of content are becoming anachronistic with content available to all. Copyright laws are having to be updated to take account of today's practices. Most relevant for Facebook, the right approach to privacy needs to take account of how consumers actually use social networks and what they want. Although many internet companies have to deal with privacy issues, this is particularly challenging for social ne

Drill (Down), Baby, Drill: Facebook’s New “Simple” Privacy Settings Still Pretty Complex

Today, Facebook announced new simplified privacy controls designed to ease a settings overload problem that it admitted has challenged its users. Did it succeed? I’d give it an A for effort but a C+ to B- for actually solving the overload problem. Rather than a “one click solution” or a single-page recap, there remains a “flowchart” of options. Though less daunting than in the past, the complexity may still leave users feeling there are too many controls to be in control. Below, a “Before” and “After” comparison. The “Before” screens are what most people on Facebook currently see, when they visit their privacy settings. The “After” is what they’ll get in the coming weeks and which can be previewed here . A small number people already have access to the new controls, including many reporters who participated in Facebook’s privacy press conference today . I was one of those reporters, so the “After” screens below are drawn from what I see in my personal account.

Facebook's Privacy Fixes Can't Cure Stupid

Facebook deserves plenty of blame for messing too much with its privacy settings, but no amount of fixing will stop people from embarrassing themselves on the Internet. An interesting thing happened in the time since Facebook's privacy fiasco began: The debate moved away from the most recent changes to Facebook's privacy -- allowing select Web sites to automatically tell your Facebook friends what you've been doing on those sites -- and now focuses on changes that are almost six months old . Suddenly, it seems, users are upset that Facebook wants status updates and friends lists shared with the world. By default, new Facebook users' profiles are set to "everyone," making life on the Internet an open book. Enter, well, Openbook , the site that exposes just how much people expose on Facebook. PCWorld has covered this site before , making note of the too-much-information that (I hope) users think was kept private. NPR played a different trick

Facebook Answers Critics With New Privacy Controls

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg today unveiled his company's revamped privacy tools in front of a corps of tech journalists that included organizers of last year's Facebook Redesign Revolt , PCWorld editors who drafted a Bill of Rights for Facebook Users , and many of the company's fiercest critics of its privacy policies. Responding to widespread user outrage and criticism from government and private advocacy groups, Facebook outlined a massive overhaul of the privacy controls that govern how users' information is shared on the site. "We listened to the feedback that we got, and we agree with it," Zuckerberg told assembled members of the press at the company's Palo Alto headquarters. "We're really going to try to not have another backlash." The major changes to the site's privacy options consist of a simplified set of controls that will let users opt out of three main types of information sharing: personal content, person

Facebook unveils privacy controls

FACEBOOK overhauled its privacy controls yesterday to fend off mounting criticism that it is betraying the trust that has made it the world's biggest social network. "It's been a pretty intense few weeks for us, listening to all the feedback coming in from all the changes we've made," Facebook's 26-year-old founder Mark Zuckerberg said as he announced simplified privacy controls. "Our teams internally have been cranking for the last couple of weeks." Facebook unveiled a redesigned privacy settings page to provide a single control for content and "significantly reduce" the amount of information that is always visible to everyone. Facebook also said it is giving users more control over how outside applications or websites access information at the service. "This is a pretty big overhaul to the system we already have," Zuckerberg said while outlining the changes during a press briefing at the social network's headquarte

Zuckerberg: simplified controls coming soon

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg has just penned an editorial for the Washington Post , answering his critics and announcing that changes are on the way. Mr Zuckerberg writes of two substantive changes coming soon — drastically simplified privacy settings, and an easy way to opt-out of third party services such as the recently launched Instant Personalisation feature. These changes are in line with what we reported on Saturday , when we revealed plans for Facebook’s “master control.” Mr Zuckerberg, who has been criticised for not being more forthcoming in recent weeks, took responsibility for his company’s overreach. “The biggest message we have heard recently is that people want easier control over their information,” he wrote. “Simply put, many of you thought our controls were too complex. Our intention was to give you lots of granular controls; but that may not have been what many of you wanted. We just missed the mark.” It will be Facebook’s next steps, however, tha

John Gapper: Facebook’s open disdain for privacy

Facebook is spreading like a weed across the globe. It has blown past 400m users and will soon be a half-billion users strong. Yet as it has grown, writes John Gapper , its respect for the privacy of its users has steadily eroded. Unfortunately, Mark Zuckerberg, the 25-year-old who founded Facebook as a private social network for Harvard students, has recently been displaying a disregard bordering on disdain for Facebook users’ right to maintain control over personal information. Not only has Facebook gradually eroded the privacy rights of its users, but it has done so in a confusing and opaque way. Facebook’s privacy controls are now so complex and hard to understand that many have been nudged into “sharing” a lot, just as Mr Zuckerberg wishes. 99% of Stories Blogs Link To Are Published By Mainstream Media

Bloggers like to think they now control the nation's news agenda--but they don't. 99% of the stories blogs link to are produced by mainstream media, according to the latest study from the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism . Pew's findings—based on a year's worth of data analyzing the top stories on millions of blogs and social media pages, Twitter and YouTube—does show how new media websites can influence the overall impact of news stories, and the ways in which new media news storylines differ from the traditional press. For instance: Newspapers and broadcast networks generated more than 99% of the stories linked to by bloggers , and 87% of those stories were news reports rather than Op/Ed pieces. But there were only 13 times when blogs and the mainstream press had the same top story , the most-overlapping of which was "the U.S. economic crisis (five weeks in all)." Others were H1N1, the protests in Iran last June and S

Well, These New Zuckerberg IMs Won't Help Facebook's Privacy Problems

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his company are suddenly facing a big new round of scrutiny and criticism about their cavalier attitude toward user privacy . An early instant messenger exchange Mark had with a college friend won't help put these concerns to rest. According to SAI sources, the following exchange is between a 19-year-old Mark Zuckerberg and a friend shortly after Mark launched The Facebook in his dorm room: Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard Zuck: Just ask. Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS [Redacted Friend's Name]: What? How'd you manage that one? Zuck: People just submitted it. Zuck: I don't know why. Zuck: They "trust me" Zuck: Dumb fucks. Brutal. Could Mark have been completely joking? Sure. But the exchange does reveal that Facebook's aggressive attitude toward privacy may have begun early on.

Is the Death of Facebook Imminent?

Recently, there is attack on Facebook from different angle. There are security concerns and there are unhappy blog posts that talks about Facebook's lack of interest in giving explanations for its complicated and constantly changing security policies. There is so much panic all over that it looks like that people are going to fund in an attempt to build another social media site. Although, Facebook is on the news for different wrong reasons, anti Facebook lobby is not strong enough to venture out for an alternative social media site because of lack of competitiveness. Say, for example, Orkut, despite of their best effort, could not establish their base in a significant way worldwide. The other communities do not have the strong potential to project themselves as a threat to Facebook. However, it is quite difficult to take over Facebook for the following reasons:

Awal Kehancuran Kerajaan Aceh Darussalam

Google Launched Encrypted Web Search

Google launched encrypted web search service on Friday and they are going to roll it out for all of their services eventually. If you want to avail this option , type "https://www.google.com" at their browser so that the words and phrases they search on, and the results that Google displays, will be protected from any unauthorized intrusion. The new beta service will be available worldwide in the next few days. Google is the first search engine that offered privacy protected feature. AOL, Yahoo or Microsoft do not. If you choose the secure option, it is going to provide the encryption only for Web searches and not for other types of searches, like Image Search and Maps etc. The encryption protects only data that travels between an your browser and the Google search server. When people click on a search result, they go through the encrypted channel and are directed to another Web site. The encrypted connections to Google.com means that users in China and other regimes where

Google to Roll Out Android 2.2 for Nexus One

Apparently, Google is starting to roll out the Android 2.2 Froyo update to Nexus One devices. According to Vice President for Google engineering Vic Gundotra at the Google IO conference, Android 2.2, codenamed Froyo, is going to be five times faster at running apps and three times faster at browsing. You will be able to use the camera and voice recognition in the browser with Froyo. Web page and games run faster because the Android browser has the same V8 JavaScript engine as Chrome. "We think we can claim Froyo has the fastest mobile browser," said Gundotra. The Froyo browser incorporates HTML 5 features; Gundotra mentioned  the ones that let the browser access hardware features like the accelerometer for rotating the screen, the camera for taking photos in web apps like Buzz, and the microphone. Using webapps with Google's voice recognition and translation services, you will be able to search the web, tell your phone what to do or get a translation of another languag

Google TV brings net to sets

Google's look and feel on TV will be similar to its style online. Photograph: Alamy Google has launched a "smart TV" service, in conjunction with partners including Sony , that will allow viewers to search the web while watching programmes. The service, called Google TV, will theoretically work with any TV set. However, the first products to incorporate the search capability will be developed by Sony and arrive on the US market from the autumn. Google TV-enabled sets, which will feature an on-screen search box similar to the company's look and feel on the web, will allow people to search for web content and download applications as well as programming from across the internet.

Serious Windows 7 Flaws Unearthed

Microsoft announced on Tuesday that its newest operating system Windows 7 can be vulnerable to users in terms of code execution and denial-of-service attacks. The vulnerability of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 has been discussed before Microsoft issued the advisory. Although, the company claims that no attack due to this Windows flaws has been reported so far. The flaw was found in the Canonical Display Driver (cdd.dll), which is used by desktop composition to mix the Windows Graphics Device Interface (GDI) and DirectX drawing. Microsoft also thinks that chances are high if an attacker can successfully exploit this vulnerability, it can result the affected system to stop responding and automatically restart. The company assured that they are going to fix the problem once the investigation is complete. By this time, affected Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 users should disable the Windows Aero Theme to prevent the issue from being exploited.

Pakistan blocks YouTube over unIslamic content

The Pakistani government blocked access to YouTube on Thursday because of "sacrilegious" content on the video-sharing website, signaling a growing Internet crackdown against sites deemed offensive to the country's majority Muslim population. The move against YouTube came a day after the government blocked access to Facebook amid anger over a page on the social networking site that encourages users to post images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad. The page sparked criticism because Islam prohibits any images of the prophet. The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority did not point to specific material on YouTube that prompted it to block the site, only citing "growing sacrilegious contents." The government took action against both Facebook and YouTube after it failed to persuade the websites to remove the "derogatory material," the regulatory body said in a statement.

YouTube Juga Diblokir

Tiga Kebohongan Facebook Tentang Privasi

Berikut ini tiga kebohongan yang diungkapkan oleh Vice President for Public Policy Facebook, Elliot Schrage, sperti di kutip berita lampung dari vivanews saat menanggapi pertanyaan-pertanyaan hak-hak privasi konsumen, dikutip dari PC World dan New York Times. 1. Menambah informasi, mengunggah foto, memposting status baru, menyukai sebuah laman. Semuanya Opt-in. Silakan jangan berbagi informasi, bila Anda tidak nyaman." Padahal, saat bergabung ke Facebook, sebagian besar data-data pengguna baru seperti biografi, interest, postingan, friend, family, relationship, lokasi, e

Is USA Loosing Data in Cyber War?

As per US defense official, US is loosing enough data to fill Library of Congress  and authorities have failed to anticipate the threat before. The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world and it archives millions of books, photographs, maps and recordings. James Miller, principal deputy under secretary of defense for policy said that more than 100 foreign spy agencies and criminal group are trying to access the US Computer. He continued that US system have been investigated 1000 times and scanned million times a day. 'The evolving cyber threat had outpaced our ability to defend against it. We are experiencing damaging penetrations - damaging in the sense of loss of information. And we don't fully understand our vulnerabilities,' Mr Miller said. Miller's comments came when the Obama administration develops a national strategy to secure U.S. digital networks and the Pentagon is building a new military command for cyber warfare which is capable of both of

The 3 Facebook Settings Every User Should Check Now

In December, Facebook made a series of bold and controversial changes regarding the nature of its users' privacy on the social networking site. The company once known for protecting privacy to the point of exclusivity (it began its days as a network for college kids only - no one else even had access), now seemingly wants to compete with more open social networks like the microblogging media darling Twitter . Those of you who edited your privacy settings prior to December's change have nothing to worry about - that is, assuming you elected to keep your personalized settings when prompted by Facebook's "transition tool." The tool, a dialog box explaining the changes, appeared at the top of Facebook homepages this past month with its own selection of recommended settings. Unfortunately, most Facebook users likely opted for the recommended settings without really understanding what they were agreeing to. If you did so, you may now be surprised to find that you in

Facebook is not your friend

There is a wonderful graphic on the New York Times site showing how Facebook's privacy statement has got larger and larger to cover the growing holes in its privacy policy. The mapping isn't perfect: if it were, the declaration of Facebook's dedication to privacy would have to be of almost infinite size, since the default amount of privacy Facebook now offers is practically zero. When the site first started, very few people could join, and nothing became public, even to them, without the users' express permission. Now everyone can join and everything is public to almost all of them unless you make a determined effort to hide it. This effort has to be renewed every six months or so when Facebook revises its privacy policy to make it more opaque and less effective. There is a wonderfully graphic animation of the process at this site. If you decide it isn't worth it, Facebook turns out to be very difficult to leave. It is very easy to "deactivate" your acco

Do Not Call Register Founder Tim Muris Joined Facebook

It seems Facebook is desperate to get rid of privacy problems faced by millions of its users. Facebook is rumored as making a relationship with Do Not Call Register that will look after its privacy issue. A speculation is going around about the creator of Do Not Call Registry Tim Muris. Tim has been rumored to join Facebook. Tim, an attorney had worked for Bush Administration. Though the exact reason behind Tim joining Facebook has not disclosed, it is probable that Facebook would utilize his experience for protecting personal information, given by its users. Tim Muris joining Facebook has already created a controversy. The Electronic privacy Information Center has filed a suit against FTC. Facebook is blamed for their involvement in unfair commercial dealings by which they have violated protection issues of the users.

Mozilla CEO, John Lilly to Quit

T he CEO of Mozilla, Mr. John Lilly is ready to step down from his post at open source software non-profit organization. Lily confirmed this via an email message to Mozilla employees. He is going to move to Greylock Partners as  a venture partner. Lilly took over from Mitchell Baker as company CEO in 2008. Initially, he served as company COO. Summary Box: Facebook rolls out security features

And when Facebook notices unusual activity, it requires users to answer some questions before the second log-in goes through. WHEN AVAILABLE: Some changes are already available, while others will come in the next few weeks. Not all users will get them all at the same time. THE BACKDROP: Facebook has been facing criticism about how it handles users' privacy. The security improvements show Facebook's efforts to maintain users' trust in the way it handles private data.

Facebook Accepts Government’s Friend Request

Got a beef with the USDA? Want to send a message to the U.S. Postal Service? Do you “like” the National Nuclear Security Administration? Now you can let them (and all of your digital friends) know how you feel. The popular social networking site Facebook launched its “Congress on Facebook” page Thursday, which they bill as a one stop shop for members’ official pages. A “Facebook and Government” page connects citizens to the official pages of state, local, and federal agencies. The pages bill themselves as a source for sharing ways that the government can best use Facebook to communicate. More and more lawmakers and government agencies are using the popular site to reach constituents. And as an unintended bonus for journalists, we’ll now be able to disguise our non-work Facebook browsing with the click of a button. Thanks Facebook!

Obama Hates the iPad

President Obama has apparently had a moment of epiphany and realized that new media and new technology can cleave young people from the truth and render them addicted to gadgets and entertainment. He said as much — attacking the iPod and iPad — at a speech to graduates of a college in Virginia last week. The president is doubly correct. First of all, he is right (as I have written a number of times) that the Internet, Facebook and, yes, the new iPad and many other devices can interfere with people becoming wise and knowledgeable, rather than simply deluged with facts. They can also become estranged from real relationships and from themselves as they become obsessed with pretending to be stars on YouTube or worthy of “followers” on Twitter or popular with thousands of “friends” on Facebook. Second, Obama is correct because his own ascension to power is a product of those very forces. He used celebrity and star power and the anonymous, pervasive reach of the Web to win his election.

Twitter Hack Lets You Force People To Follow You

Gizmodo stumbled onto an amazing hole in Twitter that allowed you to have anyone you want following you. It looks like Twitter has shut this down after word of the hole spread across...Twitter. Here's how it worked. Log in to Twitter. Type "accept 'username'" Hit "Tweet" In "username" put in who you want. We went with Conan O'Brien because he said over the weekend, " If it ever says I’m following more than one person, I’ve been hacked. I’m a completely monogamous Twitterer—I only follow Sarah Killen." And Boom! It worked for us. Apparently it also worked for 379 other people! Conan is following 380 people now. While we were writing this post it seems Twitter closed the hole. As a result of what Twitter is doing, it knocked the number of followers and following to 0 for all users. You still get the Tweets from people that are following you though.

Visualisations: How Facebook has opened the kimono

IBM researcher Matt McKeon has illustrated in a few brief slides quite how far Facebook has shifted in its treatment of users' personal data. Facebook has two issues here. One is making sure its technology delivers; that wasn't the case last week when, as TechCrunch reported, someone found a security hole that exposed private video chats . That latest problem was grist to the mill of people concerned with the bigger issue of how Facebook deals with private data through a perpetual balance of how it thinks data could be used and what users will accept. The level of openness that users will accept has shifted very fast since Facebook became mainstream, but the site continues to push that boundary forward. Since the first high-profile controversy around publishing data in news feeds back in September 2006, a string of redesigns and re-configurations have pushed users' informa

Firefox and Twitter App for Android

The development of the various news around Android-based phones are always interested me, not only because there are ’shadow’ Google behind it, but also because the development of various applications developed based on the OS and various info around Android ecosystem will always be associated with their competitors, like the iPhone and BlackBerry. Some of the developments going on around Android is interesting to note is Twitter for Android and Firefox pre-alpha for Android. Twitter for Android Twitter is busy to take care of their applications on the mobile version, after two phone ‘ngetrend’ having their mobile applications, the iPhone and BlackBerry users now turn to Android, Twitter launched their official application for Android. One reason for that is the reason many applications launches mobile version is a very significant growth, including the use of social media to help spread interest users such as photos, text, video, location and various things that are their dail

Big quake hits Indonesia's Aceh

A powerful quake with a magnitude of at least 7.2 hit the Indonesian province of Aceh on Sunday in an area devastated by the killer waves of the 2004 tsunami. The quake struck at 12:59 pm (0559 GMT) 66 kilometres (41 miles) southwest of Meulaboh on the Aceh coast, according to the local Meteorological and Geophysics Agency, triggering a local tsunami alert. The US Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 7.4. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage although some media said panicked people rushed from their houses and some sought higher ground. The people of Aceh are still traumatised by memories of December 26, 2004, when the Indian Ocean surged over the northern tip of Sumatra after a 9.3-magnitude quake split the seabed to the island's west. Indonesia was the nation hardest hit in the tsunami, one of the world's deadliest natural disasters, with at least 168,000 people killed out of more than 220,000 who lost their lives across the region.

Five hidden dangers of Facebook (Q&A)

Facebook claims that it has 400 million users. But are they well-protected from prying eyes, scammers, and unwanted marketers? Not according to Joan Goodchild, senior editor of CSO (Chief Security Officer) Online . She says your privacy may be at far greater risk of being violated than you know, when you log onto the social-networking site, due to security gaffes or marketing efforts by the company. Facebook came under fire this past week, when 15 privacy and consumer protection organizations filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission , charging that the site, among other things, manipulates privacy settings to make users' personal information available for commercial use. Also, some Facebook users found their private chats accessible to everyone on their contact list--a major security breach that's left a lot of people wondering just how secure the site is. In two words, asserts Goodchild: not very. On "The Early Show on Saturday Morning," Go

Apple iPhone OS 4.0 Developer Preview Hands On

We’ve been playing with iPhone OS 4 for a while now and here’s what we’ve learned: * It’s pretty stable, especially compared to other developer editions of the iPhone OS we’ve messed around with. We haven’t had any crashes so far, and things seem mostly to be working. Find My iPhone doesn’t work, and iTunes 9.1 doesn’t know about folders and will delete any you’ve set up, but nothing major is broken, at least as far as we can tell. * The multitasking system works as described, but without any apps that support it it’s hard to test — we’ll see if we can cajole a copy of Pandora or TomTom to play with. Steve might say task managers are a sign of failure, but you can certainly delete icons from the switcher — just long press on them and a minus arrow pops up. * Bluetooth keyboards are going to be the next greatiPhone accessory gold rush. Been jonesing for a million-dollar idea? Here you go: slider keyboard case with built-in extended battery.

How an unfixed Net glitch could strand you offline

In 1998, a hacker told Congress that he could bring down the Internet in 30 minutes by exploiting a certain flaw that sometimes caused online outages by misdirecting data. In 2003, the Bush administration concluded that fixing this flaw was in the nation's "vital interest." Fast forward to 2010, and very little has happened to improve the situation. The flaw still causes outages every year. Although most of the outages are innocent and fixed quickly, the problem still could be exploited by a hacker to spy on data traffic or take down websites. Meanwhile, our reliance on the Internet has only increased. The next outage, accidental or malicious, could disrupt businesses, the government or anyone who needs the Internet to run normally. The outages are caused by the somewhat haphazard way that traffic is passed between companies that carry Internet data. The outages are called "hijackings," even though most of them are not caused by criminals bent on destruction

Some examples of Internet 'hijackings'

Some instances of Internet outages caused by hijacked traffic, as listed by the Department of Homeland Security and other sources: April 1997: MAI Network Services, an Internet service provider in Virginia, passes bad routing information to Sprint, which relays it, causing widespread outages. April 1998: An Israeli ISP causes widespread outages. December 1999: AT&T's server network is hijacked by another ISP. May 2000: Sprint addresses hijacked by another ISP. April 2001: Global Internet carrier Flag Telecom hijacks routes. December 2004: Turk Telekom, a Turkish ISP, hijacks much of the Internet on Christmas Eve. September 2005: AT&T, XO and BellSouth traffic is misdirected to Bolivia. The next day, it's sent to Germany instead.

Chavez rockets to No. 1 on Twitter Venezuela

President Hugo Chavez is tops on Twitter in Venezuela less than 2 weeks after launching his account, surpassing Internet-savvy foes who dominate the social networking site and use it to oppose him. Chavez's account, "chavezcandanga," had racked up more than 237,000 followers as of Saturday morning — besting the 234,000 who receive tweets from Globovision, the only TV channel that remains critical of the socialist leader. In recent televised appearances, Chavez has trumpeted the meteoric rise of his Twitter popularity while downplaying the critical, often disparaging messages he receives. "Some criticize me, others insult me. I don't care," he said. "It's a form of contact with the world." The president joined Twitter on April 27 in an attempt to counter adversaries who have actively used the site to make accusations of human rights violations, organize protests and — above all — ridicule Chavez. He urged supporters to join as well, ca

Laki-laki Yang Belum Pantas Menikah

Facebook location feature to track your whereabouts

Facebook is to roll out its location based features later this month, according to the Advertising Age. It's a move that could have serious repercussions for businesses as well as end users. Firstly, in terms of the general public, users will be given the option to check in at locations such as bars, restaurants and shopping centres. Sound a bit like what Foursquare and Gowalla do now? That's because it is. The trouble for those fairly new start-ups is that Facebook already has a huge user base. Foursquare has about a million users, Facebook has over 400 million. There will, of course, be concerns with privacy and security. Facebook won't just go ahead and start posting geo-data, users will presumably have to opt in or out. The issue is, not all users will understand what they may be agreeing to.

Laki-laki Yang Sangat Disukai Wanita

iPad: A gadget for rich, thirty-something males?

Are you wealthy, male and aged 35-44? If so, you are the average iPad user according to some interesting stats released by Yahoo. Using data from anyone who signed in to any of its networks via an iPad, Yahoo revealed that men outnumbered women by almost two to one, and that in the 35-44 age category the population composition was 36 per cent higher than its usual user. It seems there aren't many kids out there with iPads yet - population composition was 39 per cent down on the Yahoo norm in the under 20 age group.

Why it is too late to regulate Facebook

I’ve seen a lot of angst over the past week about Facebook’s moves to open up your data to other applications. To really understand how huge these changes are I had to get away from Silicon Valley and come and hang out with the geeks in Kinneret, Israel where famous VC Yossi Vardi is throwing an exclusive camp for geeks and successful business innovators. To be sure, there is some fear and even a bit of hatred here of Facebook. Let’s detail that fear and hate: 1. Facebook has broken an invisible privacy contract with its users. Most of the geeks here say they expected Facebook to be about sharing photos, videos, and thoughts with friends and family. But now their previously private data is showing up on Yelp, Pandora, and Spotify. That wasn’t expected by the users, so has generated quite a bit of discussion here.

Facebook Privacy Complaint: A Complete Breakdown

The Electronic Privacy Information Center and 14 other consumer protection groups lodged a formal complaint against Facebook with the Federal Trade Commission on Wednesday. The groups take issue with Facebook's privacy policies and accuse the site of unfair and deceptive trade practices that " violate user expectations, diminish user privacy, and contradict Facebook's own representations ." At issue are Facebook's Instant Personalization feature; the inability of Facebook users to make the 'Likes and Interests' section of their profile private; and the fact that Facebook discloses user profile information in certain ways even if a user has elected to keep that information private. The complaint asks the FTC to order Facebook to "restore privacy settings that were previously available...give users meaningful control over personal information, and seek other appropriate injunctive and compensatory relief." Here's a quick lo

Say Cheese: 12 Photos That Should Never Have Been Posted Online

You know the old cliche, a picture is worth a thousand words? Turns out that pictures have been deeply undervalued: A single photo can cost you your reputation, your job, even your freedom--if you post it online. Teachers, principals, firefighters, mayors, university presidents, and everyday people have all discovered the dark side of putting the wrong photos and videos on social networking sites. Sometimes they paid the price in embarrassment. An unlucky handful lost their jobs or landed in jail. The results aren't pretty, but they are sometimes hilarious. Here's our dirty dozen--12 pictures their owners probably wish they could take back. 1. Hey Kevin, Tinker Bell Wants Her Outfit Back It's bad enough to dress up like you're about to slip a dollar under some toothless child's pillow. But former intern Kevin Colvin made it much worse by asking his boss at Anglo Irish Bank if he could take time off for a "family emergency in New York," then flitting o

Top Ten Reasons You Should Quit Facebook

After some reflection, I've decided to delete my account on Facebook. I'd like to encourage you to do the same. This is part altruism and part selfish. The altruism part is that I think Facebook, as a company, is unethical. The selfish part is that I'd like my own social network to migrate away from Facebook so that I'm not missing anything. In any event, here's my "Top Ten" reasons for why you should join me and many others and delete your account. 10. Facebook's Terms Of Service are completely one-sided Let's start with the basics. Facebook's Terms Of Service state that not only do they own your data (section 2.1), but if you don't keep it up to date and accurate (section 4.6), they can terminate your account (section 14). You could argue that the terms are just protecting Facebook's interests, and are not in practice enforced, but in the context of their other activities, this defense is pretty weak. As you'll see, there'

Dua Alasan Mengapa Sri Mulyani Patut Dicekal
