Image via Wikipedia Domain .xxx sejatinya sudah ditempatkan Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) untuk diisi oleh situs-situs berkonten dewasa. Namun lantaran mengusung azas tak asal blokir, Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika (Kominfo) tak ingin serta-merta memblokir seluruh domain .xxx nantinya. Gatot S. Dewa Broto, Kepala Pusat Informasi Kementerian Kominfo mengatakan, selama ini pihaknya selalu berupaya untuk melakukan pemblokiran secara cerdik dalam menghadang konten-konten pornografi di ranah internet Indonesia . Hal ini pun juga disampaikan kepada para penyedia jasa internet ( ISP ) yang berperan dalam melakukan filtering konten porno. "Sebab kita tidak ingin situs yang bermuatan positif cuma di dalamnya terdapat kata -kata yang berkonotasi negatif itu ikut terblokir. Jadi kami coba lakukan pemblokiran secara cerdik," jelas Gatot.

Sistem pengelolaan database terpusat pada server DNS memundahkan pengontrolan situs negatif. Server ini hadir untuk mengurangi kecemasan orang tua pada anak-anak mereka atas maraknya video tak senonoh yang melibatkan artis-artis papan atas. Sejak merebaknya kasus itu, banyak orang termasuk anak-anak dan remaja dibuat penasaran. Warnet-warnet dikabarkan penuh dengan pengunjung yang mencari situs yang menyediakan unduhan film itu. Untuk menyaring konten-konten yang tak senonoh, pengguna internet bisa memanfaatkan tools Nawala Project (DNS Nawala) besutan Asosiasi Warung Internet Indonesia (Awari), yang bebas digunakan oleh siapa saja. Icann, the organisation which determines what "top-level domains" (TLDs) such as .com or .uk can be added to the internet announced today that it will begin the process of registering .xxx by making checks on ICM Registry, the company that wants to run the domain and sell registrations. It marks the closing stages of a 10-year battle by ICM Registry, now run by the British internet entrepreneur Stuart Lawley, to get the .xxx domain set up so that legal pornography sites can be found in a single grouping.

Exactly 25 years ago, on March 15 1985, computer manufacturer Symbolics, Inc registered the first .com web domain ever: symbolics.com. By today’s design standards, and considering how web sites looked back in the late eighties and early nineties, it’s quite decent, although a bit short on content. Google has lost in its attempt to prevent a Canadian Website from using the domain name Groovle.com. The National Arbitration Forum (NAF), which is accredited by Internet overseer ICANN, has dismissed Google's complaint against Groovle.com operator 207 Media. The complaint was filed in November. Google had objected to the site's domain name, arguing that it was "confusingly similar" to its Google trademark. Groovle.com, founded by Canadians Jacob Fuller and Ryan Fitzgibbon in 2007, provides Internet start pages that people can customize with their own photos. The three-person NAF panel agreed with 207 Media that the name of its site was sufficiently different to avoid confusion with Google. "Accordingly, it is ordered that the Groovle.com domain name remain with respondent," the panel said in its decision.
