Opera to Add Powerful Features in the Upcoming Version

The Web Browser company Opera announced some of the interesting features before the release of the upcoming version, Opera 11 Alpha at its recently held conference in Oslo. The key feature of the new version is the the ability to customize the application. Opera 11 will support extensions, apart from the widgets that the current version already supports. Firefox and Chrome already allows users to add their extensions. Opera 11 will allow several extensions with its new browser. You may come across a new new terminology while browsing the web and then you can search the Wikipedia extension for that. If you like to know how many people read the article that you are currently reading, you can use Reddit extension. Similarly, there are other extensions for Facebook, YouTube etc.

Skype Segera Hengkang Dari Nimbuzz

Pada 31 Oktober 2010 mendatang, pengguna aplikasi Nimbuzz takkan lagi bisa menggunakan layanan Skype dari dalam aplikasi berlogo 'N' tersebut. Skype memutuskan segera hengkang dari Nimbuzz.

Langkah Skype itu bisa dimaklumi. Sebab sebagai penyedia layanan Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) papan atas, Skype memang sebelumnya memiliki mandat untuk menghentikan kerjasama dengan semua pihak ketiga yang juga memiliki VOiP. Dalam hal ini adalah Nimbuzz.

Sebagai informasi, Nimbuzz merupakan aplikasi ponsel gratis yang menyediakan layanan instant messaging serta jejaring sosial. Lewat Nimbuzz, pengguna bisa tetap terhubung dengan teman-teman mereka dengan membuka facebook, twitter, YM, GTalk dan beberapa layanan lain secara bersamaan.

Facebook Gugat Jejaring Sosial Porno Faceporn

Facebook kembali memerangi situs jejaring sosial lain. Kali ini Facebook membidik Faceporn.com, situs jejaring sosial yang masuk rating X atau porno.

Facebook mengajukan gugatan pada 15 Oktober lalu di Pengadilan Distrik California Utara dan mengklaim bahwa Faceporn membonceng agar terkenal dan merupakan pelanggaran hak cipta.

Faceporn menyebut diri sebagai jaringan nomor satu dalam mensosialisasikan pornografi dan seks. Tapi situs itu sudah tidak bisa diakses sejak Rabu menurut Tweet yang beredar.

Tech Giants To Invest in Social Web

Facebook, Amazon and Zynga will invest in a fund named as sFund to develop application and services for the new generation of social web. The major share of $250m will come from venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The main focus is going to be on social start-ups for industries from consumer to enterprise and from health to mobile. It will not invest in direct competitors to Facebook, Amazon or social gaming company Zynga. “There’s going to be an opportunity over the next five years or so to pick any industry and rethink it in a social way,” said Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. KCB partner KPCB partner John Doerr also backed the same opinion. He told BBC news “These social networks are going to go from a half a billion people to billions of people connected on the planet and so represents an extraordinarily exciting time on the internet.” sFund is similar to KPCB’s $200m iFund that invested at companies who create applications for Apple’s iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Dead man with 100 wives gets Facebook page to reunite family at funeral

Acentus Akuku, Kenya's most famous polygamistm, is now on Facebook in a bid to reunite his family, which includes his 100 wives.

Akuku was in his late 90's when he died from natural causes earlier this month. He married more than 100 women in his lifetime and fathered nearly 200 children.

Now, Nickson Mwanzo, one of his grandsons, has created a page on Facebook, where he wrote, "IF YOU ARE AKUKU'S FAMILY PLIZ JOIN AND SAY MORE ABOUT YOURSELF. THIS IS TO BRING THE RELATIVES TOGETHER" to convince Akuku's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, to come together for his burial, scheduled for December.

Facebook increases security options

Facebook, ever the victim of criticism when it comes to users' security, has announced a number of new features to help keep its social network more secure.

The most significant addition is "one-time passwords" that are designed for you to use when you're out and about - handy if you're at an internet cafe or using a library-based computer. Or you're at your buddy's house and you know that they'll frape you if they get into your account.

The password is sent to you via text, after you text a request (simply write "otp") to 32665. You'll get a unique password that will last for 20-minutes. You will need to log your mobile phone number with Facebook to do this - otherwise anyone would be able to get in, although no doubt people will now moan about Facebook collecting phone numbers.

Adobe AIR Released for Android Platform

We heard about the Adobe AIR earlier this year. The cross-platform application was slated to release in Q4. But having done with a series of demos it has finally got released on the Android platform.

Google to Roll out Cars that Drives by Itself

Google announced that the company tested a self-driven car that travels 14,000 miles on the street of California. According to software engineer Sebastian Thrun, the car uses video cameras on the rooftop, radar sensors and a laser range finder to maneuver through other traffic. However, there is a driver in stand-by mode as well as a software expert to take control.

They car goes through San Francisco's iconic Golden Gate bridge, passed the city's famous sloping streets, driven between Google offices, and made it around Lake Tahoe. Routes are pre-planned, mapped first by real drivers, and local police are informed ahead of time, he said. Sebastian also quoted figures from the World Health Organization which show that more than 1.2 million people are killed each year on the roads, and the number can be reduced after using self-driven car.
